Tamron has reinvented itself: from budget alternative to the brand that makes the most popular zooms for Sony and Nikon — more compact and lighter than the brand lenses, for half the money. Popular models right now are the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD (all-round portrait and action zoom), the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD (compact wide-angle zoom) and the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (light standard zoom). We usually have around 225 Tamron lenses in stock.
Why a used Tamron?
Tamron's modern zooms are already the value tip in every buying guide when new — review sites regularly place the G2 generation above the brand lenses they compete with — and used the threshold drops even further. Because the brand deliberately opts for slightly more modest specifications (f/2.8 with 28mm instead of 24mm), you get brand-level optics in a smaller, lighter lens — and that formula does not age. Handy detail: almost all modern Tamron zooms share the same 67mm filter size, so one set of filters serves your whole bag. That way you equip that bag for the budget of a single brand zoom, with tools that simply start their second round.
The stars per system
- Sony E — the 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 is a modern classic, the unique 35-150mm f/2-2.8 replaces two lenses at once and the 70-180mm f/2.8 G2 keeps telephoto work light.
- Travel & wildlife — the 50-400mm covers almost everything on its own.
- APS-C — the 17-70mm f/2.8 is the standard zoom for Sony and Fuji crop shooters.
- Nikon Z and older — more and more lines appear for Z, and the SP series for Canon EF and Nikon F remains a household name — like the 90mm macro, for generations now.
What we look for in used Tamron
Every Tamron goes through the same inspection as brand glass: autofocus, VC stabilisation, aperture and a glass check under bright light. On zooms we also test for zoom creep and the smoothness of the ring, and on the older SP lines the focusing behaviour on modern bodies. If a copy has a built-in USB port, we check the firmware straight away and update it where needed. What we see, we state honestly with the product — with copy photos and a 12-month warranty.
