What makes the Canon EOS 800D special?

The 800D sits at an interesting sweet spot in the Canon EF cameras lineup. Compared to its predecessor, the Canon EOS 750D, the 800D brings a noticeably improved DIGIC 7 processor, a significantly upgraded 45-point all-cross-type AF system (the 750D had a 19-point system), better low-light performance, and Bluetooth connectivity on top of Wi-Fi. The result is a camera that feels genuinely more responsive โ€” faster subject acquisition and better tracking in continuous shooting.

Against the Canon EOS 200D (Rebel SL2), the 800D has a larger, more ergonomic grip and the full 45-point AF versus the 200D's 9-point system, which makes a real difference when tracking moving subjects. Image quality between the two is very close, but the 800D offers more shooting flexibility. The Canon EOS 850D (Rebel T8i) succeeded the 800D and added 4K-cropped video and a slightly improved AF system, but the 800D still produces competitive JPEG colors and strong low-light results for its sensor class.

The Nikon D7500 is sometimes compared to the 800D โ€” it offers a larger buffer and slightly better high-ISO output, but the 800D is lighter, has a fully articulating screen (the D7500 only tilts), and its DIGIC 7 processing delivers excellent in-camera JPEGs straight out of the box. The 800D does not shoot 4K video, which is worth knowing if that's a must-have โ€” but Full HD at 60fps with a proper microphone input covers the vast majority of casual and travel video.
