Question 1

What is the Canon LEGRIA HF G25?

Accepted Answer

The Canon LEGRIA HF G25 is a consumer-to-prosumer HD camcorder designed for video enthusiasts. It features a wide-angle zoom lens, optical image stabilisation, extensive manual controls, and a high-quality audio system including an external microphone input — making it a step above basic consumer camcorders.

Question 2

Is the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 the same as the Canon Vixia HF G20?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 is the European model name, while the Canon Vixia HF G20 is the equivalent sold in North America. The core hardware is essentially the same; the naming difference is purely regional.

Question 3

What external microphone fits the Canon LEGRIA HF G25?

Accepted Answer

The Canon LEGRIA HF G25 has a 3.5mm stereo mini-jack input, so any standard 3.5mm external microphone is compatible. A compact shotgun mic — like a Rode VideoMicro or a small lapel (lavalier) mic — plugs straight in and noticeably improves audio quality over the built-in stereo mic.

Question 4

What battery does the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 use?

Accepted Answer

The Canon LEGRIA HF G25 uses Canon BP-series lithium-ion batteries. The BP-820 is the standard bundle battery for this model. Third-party BP-820-compatible batteries are widely available, and the original Canon charger (CG-800) is what you need to charge them.

Question 5

Is the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 still worth buying?

Accepted Answer

For Full HD video work — events, interviews, documentaries — the LEGRIA HF G25 still delivers solid image quality and genuinely useful manual controls. It does not shoot 4K, so if ultra-HD resolution is a priority you'd want to look at a newer camcorder. But for reliable 1080p footage with good audio and optical stabilisation, buying it used remains a cost-effective choice.

Question 6

How does the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 compare to the Canon XA20 or XA25?

Accepted Answer

The Canon XA20 and XA25 are positioned above the LEGRIA HF G25 — they add features like dual SD card slots, timecode, and more professional audio options (XLR on the XA25). The LEGRIA HF G25 shares similar optics and image quality but is designed for enthusiast rather than professional broadcast use, which is reflected in its more compact form factor.

Question 7

What memory cards does the Canon LEGRIA HF G25 accept?

Accepted Answer

The Canon LEGRIA HF G25 records to SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. For smooth Full HD recording, a Class 10 or UHS-I card is recommended. The camcorder also has internal built-in memory for recording without a card inserted.

Question 8

Is buying a used camcorder a good idea versus buying new?

Accepted Answer

A used camcorder can offer strong value — camcorders depreciate significantly once out of production, so a second-hand LEGRIA HF G25 in good condition costs a fraction of what it did new while delivering the same video capability. The key is buying from a platform that inspects items, photographs each one individually, and backs purchases with a warranty. On Camera-tweedehands.nl every used camcorder is professionally inspected, individually photographed, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty and 14 days return right.
