Question 1

What cameras is the Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-TL ASPH compatible with?

Accepted Answer

This lens uses the Leica L mount, so it works with any L-mount camera body. That includes the Leica TL, TL2, and CL — which are the APS-C bodies it was originally designed for. Because the L-mount is a shared standard, it will also physically mount on full-frame L-mount bodies, though keep in mind it's an APS-C-format lens.

Question 2

Does the Leica 35mm Summilux-TL 11085 have autofocus?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it does. The Summilux-TL 35mm f/1.4 ASPH has built-in autofocus, which is one of the practical advantages it has over many manual Leica primes. That makes it genuinely usable for street and travel photography where you don't always have time to focus manually.

Question 3

What is the equivalent focal length on an APS-C body?

Accepted Answer

On an APS-C sensor with a 1.5x crop factor — like the Leica TL2 or CL — a 35mm lens gives you a field of view equivalent to roughly 52-53mm on full frame. That puts it right in classic 'nifty fifty' territory: natural perspective, great for street, travel, and everyday portraits.

Question 4

How does the Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-TL compare to the Leica Summicron-TL 23mm f/2 ASPH?

Accepted Answer

The Summilux-TL 35mm gives you a longer equivalent focal length (roughly 52mm equivalent vs. roughly 35mm equivalent for the 23mm) and a faster maximum aperture — f/1.4 vs. f/2. If you want a wider, more environmental field of view and a lighter lens, the Summicron-TL 23mm f/2 ASPH is the better pick. If you want that extra stop of light and a more portrait-friendly compression, the Summilux-TL 35mm wins.

Question 5

Is buying a used Leica 35mm Summilux-TL worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely, if you're already in the Leica L-mount ecosystem. Leica glass holds up exceptionally well over time, and buying second-hand means you get Summilux-level optical quality without the full new price. On Camera-tweedehands.nl, every pre-owned lens is individually photographed and professionally inspected, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty — so you're not buying blind.

Question 6

What filter size does the Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-TL ASPH use?

Accepted Answer

The filter thread is 60mm. That's not one of the most common sizes, so double-check your existing filter collection before assuming you can reuse them. If you're buying filters new, 60mm step-up or step-down rings are widely available.

Question 7

Can I use the Leica 35mm Summilux-TL 11085 for low-light and night photography?

Accepted Answer

It's a strong choice for low-light and night shooting on an APS-C body. The f/1.4 aperture lets in a significant amount of light, and the 0.4m minimum focus distance gives you good versatility. For night scenes or available-light work indoors, the wide aperture means you can keep ISO lower and shutter speeds faster than you could with a slower lens.

Question 8

How heavy is the Leica 35mm f1 4 Summilux-TL ASPH?

Accepted Answer

It weighs 428 grams. For a Summilux-class lens with autofocus, that's manageable, and it balances well with compact APS-C bodies like the Leica CL. If you're building a travel kit around a small Leica body, this lens won't drag the setup down.
