Question 1

What lens does the Leica 12487 lens hood fit?

Accepted Answer

The Leica 12487 is the original lens hood made specifically for the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux. It's an OEM accessory, so it mounts the way Leica intended — no play, no compromises.

Question 2

Is the Leica 12487 the same as other Summilux hoods?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Leica has used different part numbers for hoods across their lens lineup, and accessories are not always interchangeable between models. The 12487 part number identifies a specific hood, so always verify it matches your lens before buying.

Question 3

Does a lens hood actually help on a Leica rangefinder?

Accepted Answer

Yes — flare and contrast loss from strong side lighting are real issues even with top-quality glass like the Summilux. A correctly fitted hood like the 12487 helps block stray light from reaching the front element, which is especially useful when shooting into the sun or under bright artificial lighting.

Question 4

Is buying a used Leica lens hood worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. A lens hood is a passive mechanical accessory — there are no electronics, moving parts, or coatings to degrade with use. A second-hand Leica 12487 in good condition performs identically to a new one, and every item on Camera-tweedehands.nl comes with a minimum 12 months warranty.

Question 5

Can I use the 12487 hood on other Leica lenses?

Accepted Answer

The 12487 is designed for the 35mm f/1.4 Summilux specifically. Fitting it to a different focal length risks vignetting at the corners or a mount that doesn't sit securely. Leica accessories are lens-specific, so stick to the matched part number.

Question 6

Where can I find more Leica accessories?

Accepted Answer

You can browse the full range of used Leica gear — including bodies, lenses, and accessories — on Camera-tweedehands.nl. All items are individually inspected and come with at least 12 months warranty.
