Question 1

What cameras are compatible with CFexpress Type B cards?

Accepted Answer

CFexpress Type B cards work with a growing list of high-end bodies including the Nikon Z9, Nikon Z8, Canon EOS R3, Canon EOS R5, and Sony Alpha 1, among others. Always check your camera's manual to confirm CFexpress Type B support — some bodies use Type A instead, which is a different, smaller form factor. When in doubt, look up your specific body's memory card slot specs before buying.

Question 2

Is 1900 MB/s read speed actually useful in real shooting?

Accepted Answer

For stills, high sequential read speed mainly helps when offloading cards to your computer — a fast card can dump a full day of RAW files in minutes rather than a long coffee break. For video, write speed matters more than read speed; if you're recording 8K RAW or high-frame-rate ProRes, you want a card that can sustain fast writes without dropping frames. Because no write speed figure is published for this card in the listing, check the manufacturer's official spec sheet for the sustained write number before committing to a heavy video workflow.

Question 3

Is buying a used CFexpress card safe?

Accepted Answer

Flash memory doesn't wear the way mechanical hard drives do, and CFexpress cards are engineered to handle a very high number of write cycles before performance degrades. A pre-owned card that's been professionally inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty is a genuinely low-risk purchase. The main thing to verify is that the card hasn't been physically dropped or exposed to moisture — a thorough cosmetic inspection covers that.

Question 4

How does 256GB compare to 128GB or 512GB for most shooters?

Accepted Answer

128GB can run out fast during a multi-day event or when recording high-bitrate video continuously. 512GB gives you plenty of headroom but costs more and means more files to sort in one sitting. 256GB is the practical middle ground for most working photographers — enough for a full wedding, a day of wildlife bursts, or several hours of cinema-quality video, without the organisational overhead of one massive card.

Question 5

Do I need a special card reader for CFexpress Type B?

Accepted Answer

Yes — CFexpress Type B cards require a dedicated CFexpress Type B reader or a combined CFexpress/XQD reader. Standard SD or CompactFlash readers won't work. For maximum throughput, connect the reader to a USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt port; a slower USB connection will bottleneck the card well before it reaches its headline read speed.

Question 6

What's the difference between CFexpress Type A and Type B?

Accepted Answer

CFexpress Type A cards are physically smaller and typically found in select Sony camera bodies. Type B cards are larger, use more PCIe lanes, and generally support higher peak speeds — making them the standard for flagship bodies from Nikon, Canon, and Fujifilm. The two formats are physically incompatible and cannot be swapped between slots, so always confirm which type your camera accepts before buying.
