Who is the Nikon AF-S 12-24mm f/4 G IF-ED DX for?
If you shoot landscapes, architecture, or astrophotography with a DSLR and a DX-format sensor, this lens deserves a serious look. The 12mm end gives you an equivalent field of view of roughly 18mm on full frame — genuinely wide, useful for sweeping scenes, tight interiors, and star-filled skies where you want maximum sky in the frame. At the 24mm end that works out to approximately 36mm equivalent, giving you a useful range that stretches from ultra-wide to a near-normal perspective. The constant f/4 aperture keeps exposure consistent as you zoom, which matters when you're dialling in settings at night or bracketing landscape shots. The Silent Wave Motor makes autofocus smooth and quiet, handy for video work or wildlife photography where noise matters. At 465g it's light enough to carry all day without fatigue. Photographers who already own Nikon F-mount bodies — think Nikon D7500, D500, or D3500 — can drop this straight in without any adapters. If you're comparing it to the Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED, the 12-24mm trades a little reach at the wide end for a constant aperture — worth weighing depending on your priorities.
