Question 1

Which Profoto heads is the 70mm frosted glass cover compatible with?

Accepted Answer

The 101542 is a genuine Profoto part with a 70mm diameter and integrated mounting ring. Profoto uses this cover size across several of their monolight and pack-head models — the Profoto D1 and Profoto B1 families are among those that use 70mm covers, but always cross-check against your specific head's manual or Profoto's official compatibility list before ordering.

Question 2

What is the difference between a frosted and a clear Profoto glass cover?

Accepted Answer

A frosted glass cover diffuses the light as it exits the flash head, producing a softer, more even spread. A clear cover transmits light with less diffusion, maintaining maximum output intensity and a harder quality of light. The frosted version is popular for portrait and beauty work where gentle, wrapping light is the goal.

Question 3

Is buying a used Profoto glass cover worth it?

Accepted Answer

Yes — a glass cover is a passive optical component with no electronics or moving parts, so wear is easy to assess visually. On Camera-tweedehands.nl every item is individually photographed and inspected, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, making a used cover a practical and cost-effective choice.

Question 4

Can a cracked or scratched glass cover affect my lighting quality?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Even minor cracks or deep scratches scatter light unpredictably, creating uneven hot spots or flare in your images. A clean frosted cover ensures consistent, controlled diffusion every shot — replacing a damaged cover promptly protects both image quality and the flash tube behind it.

Question 5

Does the Profoto 101542 glass cover include the mounting ring?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the full product name is 'Glass Cover Frosted with Ring', so the 70mm mounting ring is included as part of the assembly. This means you can install it directly onto a compatible Profoto head without sourcing the ring separately.

Question 6

How do I clean a frosted glass cover without damaging it?

Accepted Answer

Use a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth with a small amount of lens cleaning fluid or isopropyl alcohol. Avoid abrasive materials and never use solvent-based cleaners, which can etch or cloud the frosted surface. Always let the cover cool completely before cleaning if it has been used recently.
