Question 1

What cameras is the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art compatible with?

Accepted Answer

This lens uses a Nikon F mount and is designed for APS-C sensor cameras. It fits Nikon DSLR bodies like the Nikon D500, D7500, and D3500, among others. It can also be mounted on full-frame Nikon F bodies, but the DC designation means it's optimised for crop-sensor cameras — on full-frame you'll see vignetting at wider focal lengths.

Question 2

Is the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 really a constant aperture zoom?

Accepted Answer

Yes — f/1.8 holds from 18mm all the way to 35mm. That's the defining characteristic of this lens. Most zoom lenses in this focal range have variable apertures that close down as you zoom in, typically to f/3.5 or f/4. A constant f/1.8 means consistent exposure and depth of field control regardless of where you are in the zoom range.

Question 3

Is the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 good for astrophotography?

Accepted Answer

It's a practical choice for wide-field astro work on an APS-C body. The 18mm end gives you a wide field of view, and f/1.8 lets in a lot of light — useful when you're trying to keep shutter speeds short enough to avoid star trails. The fast aperture and ultra-wide angle are exactly what you want for Milky Way shots.

Question 4

How does the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 compare to the Sigma 18-35mm f/2.8?

Accepted Answer

There is no Sigma 18-35mm f/2.8 in the Art line — the f/1.8 version is the only 18-35mm Art lens Sigma makes. The related comparison point within the Art system is the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art, which covers the longer end at the same maximum aperture. If you're comparing against third-party alternatives in the f/2.8 range, you're giving up a full stop of light.

Question 5

How heavy is the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art?

Accepted Answer

It weighs 810g. That's substantial for an APS-C lens, roughly equivalent to many full-frame f/2.8 zooms. If you're hand-holding for extended periods or shooting run-and-gun video, the weight is worth factoring in. On a tripod for landscapes or astro, it's a non-issue.

Question 6

Does the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 have image stabilisation?

Accepted Answer

No, there's no optical image stabilisation built into this lens. If your Nikon body has in-body stabilisation, that will help. Otherwise, for static scenes like landscapes or astrophotography, a tripod handles it. For handheld use, the fast f/1.8 aperture compensates by letting you use faster shutter speeds in low light.

Question 7

Is buying a used Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 worth it?

Accepted Answer

A pre-owned copy of this lens is an excellent buy. At Camera-tweedehands.nl, every lens is hand-inspected and individually photographed, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 has robust build quality and HSM autofocus that holds up well over time. We list the condition grade on the product page, so you know exactly what you're getting — cosmetic wear on the barrel doesn't affect optical performance.

Question 8

What filter size does the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art take?

Accepted Answer

The filter thread is 72mm. That's a less common size than 67mm or 77mm, so note this if you plan to use filters. A circular polariser or ND filter in 72mm will work fine for landscape work with this lens.
