Question 1

Does the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye work on a full-frame Canon body?

Accepted Answer

The Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 AT-X DX is designed for APS-C (DX/crop) sensors. It will physically mount on a full-frame Canon EF body, but at most focal lengths the image circle won't cover the full sensor — you'll see heavy vignetting or a circular fisheye effect rather than a frame-filling image. For dedicated full-frame fisheye shooting, a lens like the Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye is the better match.

Question 2

Is the Tokina 10-17mm f/3.5-4.5 good for astrophotography?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the 10mm end gives you a sweeping 180° field of view that pulls in huge sections of the night sky in a single shot, which is a big advantage for Milky Way arches and star trail photography. The f/3.5 maximum aperture at 10mm is decent for letting in light during long exposures. Just keep in mind the fisheye distortion curves the horizon, so it works best when you want a dramatic, immersive look rather than a straight-horizon landscape shot.

Question 3

Does the Tokina 10-17mm have autofocus on Canon?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Canon EF version of the Tokina 10-17mm AT-X DX has built-in autofocus, so it communicates fully with compatible Canon EF DSLR bodies. AF performance is reliable for landscapes and slower-moving subjects; for fast action you may prefer to pre-focus manually given the wide depth of field at 10mm anyway.

Question 4

How does the Tokina 10-17mm fisheye compare to a fixed fisheye lens?

Accepted Answer

The main advantage over a fixed fisheye — like the Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye — is flexibility. Zooming from 10mm (full 180° fisheye) to 17mm (roughly 100° angle of view) lets you control how much fisheye distortion appears in the frame. At 17mm on APS-C the image starts to look more like an extreme ultra-wide than a classic fisheye, giving you creative range that a prime simply can't offer.

Question 5

Is buying a used Tokina 10-17mm fisheye a safe choice?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — this lens has a well-documented reputation for solid metal build quality, which means used copies typically hold up very well. At Camera-tweedehands.nl, every second-hand lens is individually inspected for optical and mechanical condition, professionally photographed, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty. We document any wear or issues in the condition grade so you know exactly what you're getting.

Question 6

What Canon EF DSLR bodies work best with this lens?

Accepted Answer

Any Canon EF DSLR with an APS-C sensor is an ideal pairing — think bodies in the Canon EOS 90D, Canon EOS 850D or Canon EOS 7D line. These crop-sensor bodies give the lens its full 180° field of view at 10mm. Full-frame Canon bodies like the Canon EOS 5D series will show significant vignetting, so they're not the recommended match for this particular lens.
