Question 1

Does the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X work with autofocus on Fujifilm cameras?

Accepted Answer

No — the Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X is a fully manual-focus lens. There is no autofocus motor. On Fujifilm X-series bodies you can use focus peaking and EVF magnification to nail focus, but you turn the focus ring yourself. If autofocus is essential to how you shoot, the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R is the obvious native alternative.

Question 2

What's the difference between the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X and the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R?

Accepted Answer

The biggest practical difference is autofocus: the Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 R has AF, the Voigtlander doesn't. Optically, reviews and side-by-side samples show similar rendering character at comparable apertures — the Nokton actually edges ahead in maximum aperture (f/1.2 vs f/1.4), which translates to roughly one-third of a stop more light and slightly shallower depth of field. The Voigtlander also has a more tactile, all-metal manual focus experience that many photographers prefer for deliberate, slow shooting styles.

Question 3

Is the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm 1.2 good for astrophotography?

Accepted Answer

Yes — f/1.2 is a very capable aperture for night sky shooting. More light hits the sensor in a shorter exposure, which helps reduce star trailing and noise. Because this is a manual focus lens, you're already doing what astrophotography demands: focusing manually, typically at or near infinity. Just verify focus carefully using your camera's live view magnification, since focus at infinity on fast primes varies by copy.

Question 4

How does the 35mm focal length behave on a Fujifilm APS-C sensor?

Accepted Answer

On a Fujifilm X-mount camera with an APS-C sensor, a 35mm lens gives an equivalent field of view of roughly 53mm in full-frame terms — very close to what's often described as a 'normal' or natural perspective. It's slightly tighter than a classic 35mm full-frame view, making it ideal for street photography and travel where you want to capture a scene without distorting proportions.

Question 5

Is buying a used Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X worth it?

Accepted Answer

Definitely a smart buy used. The all-metal, manual-focus construction means there's no complex AF mechanism to fail over time. The main things to check on a second-hand copy are smooth focus ring action and clean aperture blades free of oil haze. On Camera-tweedehands.nl every lens is professionally inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if something isn't right.

Question 6

Does the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X have weather sealing?

Accepted Answer

No — the Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X does not have weather sealing. If you regularly shoot in rain or dusty conditions, factor that into your decision. Pairing it with a weather-sealed Fujifilm body doesn't add any protection at the lens itself, so take care in harsh conditions.

Question 7

How does the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 compare to the Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2 for Fujifilm X?

Accepted Answer

Both lenses share the same f/1.2 maximum aperture and manual-focus-only design, so the choice really comes down to field of view. The 23mm f/1.2 gives a wider, more environmental perspective — closer to 35mm equivalent on APS-C — while the 35mm f/1.2 sits at roughly 53mm equivalent, favouring street portraits and slightly compressed compositions. If you want to cover both, they make a complementary two-prime travel kit.

Question 8

Is the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 X good for portrait photography?

Accepted Answer

Yes, though it depends on the style of portrait. At f/1.2 you get very smooth background separation, and the 35mm focal length on APS-C is flattering for environmental or half-body portraits without the compression of a longer lens. For tight headshots you'll need to get close, which some subjects find uncomfortable — a 56mm or 85mm focal length suits studio portraits better. For relaxed, candid, and travel portraits, this Nokton is excellent.
