Question 1

What is the difference between the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 and the 35mm f/1.4 II?

Accepted Answer

The Mark II version of the Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 brings a revised mechanical construction — including changes to the aperture ring, focus throw and filter thread — compared to the original. Importantly, the original Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 was sold in both SC (single-coating) and MC (multi-coating) variants, while the Mark II is specifically the MC version, giving you consistent flare and ghosting suppression without having to hunt for the right coating variant.

Question 2

Is the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II compatible with Leica M cameras?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the lens uses a native Leica M bayonet mount, so it couples directly with any Leica M-series rangefinder body without an adapter. It also works with mirrorless cameras from Sony, Nikon, Fujifilm and others when used with the appropriate M-mount adapter, though rangefinder coupling is only functional on actual M-mount bodies.

Question 3

What does 'MC' mean on the Voigtlander Nokton Classic?

Accepted Answer

'MC' stands for multi-coating, which refers to multiple anti-reflective layers applied to the lens elements. This reduces internal reflections, ghosting and flare — particularly useful when shooting towards the sun or under artificial lighting at wide apertures like f/1.4.

Question 4

Is buying a used Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II worth it?

Accepted Answer

Buying a second-hand Voigtländer Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II is generally a smart move. The lens has a robust, all-metal build that ages well, and manual-focus lenses have far fewer electronic components to fail over time. Every pre-owned lens on Camera-tweedehands.nl is professionally inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if anything is not as described.

Question 5

How does the 35mm focal length perform for street and portrait photography?

Accepted Answer

35mm is one of the most versatile focal lengths for both street and portrait work. On a full-frame body it gives a natural, close-to-human-eye perspective that avoids the distortion of wider lenses while still capturing enough surroundings for environmental context. At f/1.4 you can isolate a subject with a pleasingly soft background even at the moderate shooting distances typical of street photography.

Question 6

Does the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm f/1.4 II have autofocus?

Accepted Answer

No — this is a fully manual-focus lens, which is standard for the Leica M system. On a Leica M rangefinder body the focus is coupled mechanically to the rangefinder patch, giving you precise focus confirmation without electronics. On mirrorless bodies via adapter you rely on focus peaking or magnification in the electronic viewfinder.
