Used optics
In used optics you'll find everything for a sharp view into the distance: binoculars, spotting scopes and matching accessories for birdwatchers, hunters, nature lovers and stargazers. It's a section full of top-class glass from brands such as Leica, Zeiss, Nikon and Swarovski — gear that is seriously pricey new, but suddenly becomes a good deal more accessible when used. Whether you're after handy pocket binoculars for when you're out and about or a serious scope for hours of observing, you'll find it here.
Good optics last for decades and lose hardly any quality, so buying used is often a smart move in this corner. Popular choices are the Leica Ultravid and Trinovid binoculars, the Zeiss Conquest HD and Victory series, and the Nikon Monarch range. For those who want to reach further there are spotting scopes such as the Leica APO-Televid and Zeiss Diascope. Dive into Binoculars for handheld binoculars, Telescopes for the scopes, or Optics Accessories for eyepieces and other accessories.

Optics is one of the categories where buying used pays off the most. High-quality binoculars and scopes are mechanically simple and last for generations, so a used example from Leica, Zeiss or Swarovski is rarely inferior to a new one — while you save a considerable amount. It does pay, though, to take a critical look at the condition of the glass and the mechanics.
What to look out for with used optics
Always check the glass for scratches, mould (fungus) and fogging between the lenses — the latter points to a compromised seal. Turn the focus ring and the eyecups: they should move smoothly and without play. With binoculars, check that both barrels are properly aligned (collimation), so you don't get double vision or tired eyes. For a spotting scope, a clean, clear eyepiece is at least as important as the scope itself. With us, every item is professionally inspected, so you know what you're bringing home.
Who is it for
Birdwatchers and nature photographers often reach for 8x42 or 10x42 binoculars as an all-rounder, while a compact 8x25 or 8x32 is ideal for taking along on your travels. Hunters and wildlife managers like to opt for bright models that also perform at dusk. If you really want detail at long range, for seabirds or stars for example, a spotting scope or telescope is the right direction. Unsure about magnification and objective diameter? The first figure indicates the magnification, the second the lens diameter in millimetres.
Warranty and returns
All used optics come with at least 12 months' warranty and a 14-day right of return, so you can take your time at home testing whether the glass suits you. The range changes constantly, so feel free to come back more often if you're looking for something specific.
