Used teleconverters

In this category you'll find used teleconverters (also known as extenders): small adapters that you fit between camera and lens to extend your telephoto reach, usually by a factor of 1.4x or 2x. Handy if you're after just that little bit of extra reach for wildlife, sport or birds, without buying an expensive super-telephoto lens straight away. The selection here is focused and changes constantly — you'll come across sought-after models such as the Canon EF 1.4x III Extender, the Nikon TC-20E III Teleconverter and the Canon EF 2x III Extender, alongside options like the Canon RF 1.4x Extender for the newer RF systems. Because a teleconverter only works well with a suitable lens, you choose the type that belongs to your system.

Buying used teleconverters: what should you look out for?

A teleconverter is a clever way to get more telephoto reach out of the glass you already own. Important to know: it does reduce the amount of light reaching your sensor — a 1.4x costs you about one stop, a 2x about two stops. You'll notice that in slower autofocus and less leeway in low light. A good converter has only a limited effect on sharpness, provided you pair it with a sharp, fast telephoto lens.

What should you look out for in a used teleconverter?

Compatibility is everything here. Not every converter fits every lens, not even within the same brand — so always check whether your specific lens is supported. That's why you should filter by the right system via For Nikon, For Canon, For Sony or Other Teleconverters. Also pay attention to the contacts: they need to be clean and undamaged for correct communication and autofocus. Optically, teleconverters are fairly robust, but do check the lens elements for scratches and fungus.

Who is a teleconverter for?

Mainly for nature, bird and sports photographers who want to extend their reach without lugging a second telephoto lens around. If you're unsure which model to choose, the Canon EF 1.4x III Extender, the Nikon TC-20E III Teleconverter and the Nikon TC-14E III Teleconverter are a safe choice thanks to their sharpness and reliable autofocus coupling. Every teleconverter we offer has been professionally inspected, comes with at least 12 months' warranty and you have 14 days to return it — so you can be sure it does what it promises.
