Question 1

Which Broncolor flash heads are these tubes, grids and masks compatible with?

Accepted Answer

These accessories are specifically designed for the Broncolor Picolite and Mobilite flash heads. They are not universally compatible with other Broncolor heads or third-party strobes, so check that your head model matches before buying.

Question 2

What do the grids actually do on a Picolite or Mobilite setup?

Accepted Answer

Grids narrow the angle of the light beam coming from the flash head, reducing spill onto surrounding areas. This is particularly useful in portrait or product photography when you want a tight, directional light source without lighting up the background or nearby surfaces.

Question 3

What are the masks used for in a Broncolor Picolite setup?

Accepted Answer

Masks slot into the accessory tube and block or shape portions of the light output, allowing you to project patterns or create defined light shapes on your subject or background. They're popular in editorial and fashion photography for adding a creative or graphic element to the lighting.

Question 4

Is buying used Broncolor accessories worth it?

Accepted Answer

Broncolor accessories are built to a high standard using durable materials, so a used set in good condition can perform exactly like new. Buying pre-owned means you get the same optical and mechanical quality at a lower cost, and every item on Camera-tweedehands.nl is individually inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty.

Question 5

Do I need the accessory tube to attach grids and masks to my flash head?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the accessory tube acts as the mounting interface between the Picolite or Mobilite head and the grids or masks. Without it, the grids and masks have no secure way to attach to the flash head, so the tube is an essential part of the system.

Question 6

Are these Broncolor accessories hard to find new?

Accepted Answer

Broncolor is a professional studio lighting brand with a relatively niche distribution network, and dedicated accessories like these tubes, grids, and masks are not always easy to source new. The used market is often the most practical route to completing or expanding a Picolite or Mobilite kit.
