A used compact camera is often the smartest way to get hold of a premium model: new, the better pocket cameras are pretty pricey, whereas used you get far more camera for your budget. With us, all cameras are professionally inspected, you get at least 12 months' warranty and you have a 14-day return period, so you can take your time trying out whether the camera suits you.
What should you look out for with a used compact or bridge camera?
Check the lens and the zoom mechanism above all: on compacts the lens extends and retracts, so you don't want any faltering there or dust behind the glass. Also test the screen, the buttons and — on models with a small viewfinder — the electronic viewfinder. With superzooms and bridge cameras image stabilisation is important, because without that help shooting at the far end of the zoom range becomes difficult. Our condition description clearly states what the condition is, and we supply a working battery as standard.
Who is this type of camera for?
A compact camera is ideal if you want a real camera that can always come along, without the weight and the choice stress of separate lenses. The premium compacts are popular as a second camera alongside a mirrorless camera or as a vlogging camera, and a Leica D-LUX 8 or Ricoh GR IIIx does an excellent job there thanks to their compact size and direct handling. A bridge camera is a better fit for those who love zoom: travel, animals, sport or events, all with a single camera, and for that a Sony Cyber-shot RX10 IV or Nikon Coolpix P1000 is a logical choice. Feel free to also look at the separate brand pages such as Canon, Sony, Panasonic and Leica to search specifically within your favourite brand.
