Question 1

What makes the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z different from other 24-105mm lenses?

Accepted Answer

It's the first 24-105mm zoom to maintain a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire focal range. Most 24-105mm lenses — including the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM — have a maximum aperture of f/4. The f/2.8 version lets in twice as much light, which is a meaningful difference when shooting in churches, receptions, or any dimly lit environment.

Question 2

How heavy is the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z?

Accepted Answer

It weighs 1300g and is 199mm long with an 89mm diameter. That's substantial — more than many comparable zooms — so it's worth pairing with a comfortable strap or a gimbal if you're shooting video all day. The weight is partly a result of fitting 23 optical elements into a lens that spans such a wide focal and aperture range.

Question 3

Does the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z have image stabilisation?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It has built-in optical image stabilisation. When paired with a Canon body that has in-body IS (IBIS), the two systems work together for even greater stabilisation effectiveness — particularly useful for handheld video or slower shutter speeds in low light.

Question 4

Is the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z weather-sealed?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the lens has weather sealing. As an L-series lens it's built to Canon's professional-grade construction standards, so it handles dust and moisture in the field. It's a practical advantage for wedding and outdoor event photographers who can't always control the environment.

Question 5

What filter size does the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z use?

Accepted Answer

The filter thread is 82mm. That's a common size for professional zooms, so you'll find a wide range of compatible ND, polarising, and protective filters readily available. A lens hood is included in the box.

Question 6

How does the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 compare to the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4?

Accepted Answer

The f/2.8 version offers a full stop more light-gathering, which matters most in low-light situations and for shallower depth-of-field control. The f/4 version is significantly lighter and smaller, making it the better travel companion if weight is your priority. For professional event and wedding work, the f/2.8 is typically the preferred choice.

Question 7

What Canon cameras is this lens compatible with?

Accepted Answer

The Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z fits any camera with a Canon RF mount. That includes bodies like the Canon EOS R5, Canon EOS R6, Canon EOS R3, and Canon EOS R1. It does not fit EF or EF-S mount bodies without an adapter, though the RF-to-EF adapter is not designed for this direction of use.

Question 8

Can the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z be used for video?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — it's one of its strongest use cases. The USM autofocus is smooth and quiet, the constant f/2.8 means no aperture breathing during zoom pulls, and the 11-blade aperture gives out-of-focus areas a cinematic look. The smooth zoom ring mentioned in hands-on reviews makes manual zoom pulls feel controlled rather than jerky.

Question 9

What is the minimum focus distance and maximum magnification?

Accepted Answer

Minimum focus distance is 0.45m and maximum magnification is 0.29x. That's not macro territory, but it's close enough to fill the frame with smaller subjects like flowers or product shots when shooting at 105mm. It keeps the lens genuinely versatile for a wide range of shooting scenarios beyond just wide-to-tele coverage.

Question 10

Is buying a used Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z worth it?

Accepted Answer

For yes. L-series lenses are built to last, and the weather sealing and metal construction mean a well-maintained used copy performs exactly like a new one. Every second-hand lens on Camera-tweedehands.nl is individually inspected and photographed before listing, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty — so you're covered if anything unexpected comes up after purchase.

Question 11

How many aperture blades does the Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8 L IS USM Z have?

Accepted Answer

It has 11 aperture blades. More blades produce a rounder aperture opening, which results in smoother, more circular bokeh highlights. For portrait and wedding work where background blur quality matters, 11 blades is a meaningful spec.
