Question 1

What type of shooter is the JVC GY-HM790U designed for?

Accepted Answer

The GY-HM790U is a professional shoulder-mount HD camcorder aimed at broadcast journalists, documentary filmmakers, and event videographers who need a full-size, ergonomic camera body for extended shooting sessions in ENG and field production environments. The camcorder fits into the wider JVC camcorder range on Camera-tweedehands.nl.

Question 2

Is the JVC GY-HM790U suitable for narrative filmmaking?

Accepted Answer

The GY-HM790U is a broadcast and ENG camcorder — it's optimised for news gathering, documentary, and event work rather than narrative or scripted production. Its fixed built-in Fujinon lens and 1/3-inch 3-CCD system give it a classic broadcast look, but it lacks the interchangeable-lens flexibility that dedicated cinema or hybrid cameras provide. If narrative is your primary goal, a different camera class would be a better fit.

Question 3

What recording media does the JVC GY-HM790U use?

Accepted Answer

The GY-HM790U records to SDHC/SDXC memory cards. These are widely available, inexpensive, and make in-field file transfer fast and straightforward — a practical advantage for fast-turnaround broadcast workflows.

Question 4

Is buying a used JVC GY-HM790U a good idea?

Accepted Answer

Professional broadcast camcorders like the GY-HM790U are engineered for heavy production schedules, so a well-maintained second-hand unit can still deliver reliable service. Buying used gives you access to broadcast-grade hardware at a more accessible price point. At Camera-tweedehands.nl, every unit is professionally inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, with the exact term shown on the variant listing.

Question 5

Does the JVC GY-HM790U have built-in streaming or network capability?

Accepted Answer

Based on SERP research, the GY-HM790U includes network streaming functionality designed for live ENG field transmission. However, this is not confirmed against a manufacturer spec sheet, and capability may vary by variant. The specific variant listing on Camera-tweedehands.nl will confirm which features are present on the unit you're purchasing.

Question 6

Does the JVC GY-HM790U have an interchangeable lens mount?

Accepted Answer

No — the GY-HM790U uses a built-in Fujinon zoom lens paired with a 1/3-inch 3-CCD imaging system. This is a fixed-lens broadcast camcorder design, which is standard for professional ENG cameras in this class. If interchangeable lenses are a priority, you'd need to look at a different camera category. (Specs sourced from SERP research; not confirmed against a manufacturer spec sheet.)
