Question 1

Which Leica cameras use the BP-SCL4 battery?

Accepted Answer

The BP-SCL4 is designed for Leica SL-series bodies such as the Leica SL2. It is not compatible with the Leica M-series — those bodies use a different battery model. We recommend verifying the model number in your camera's battery compartment to ensure compatibility.

Question 2

Is buying a used Leica BP-SCL4 battery worth it?

Accepted Answer

A used OEM battery from a reputable source is a solid choice — Leica's original batteries are built to the same spec as the ones shipped with the camera. Every battery sold on Camera-tweedehands.nl is individually inspected, with contacts and casing checked before listing, and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if performance falls short.

Question 3

How long does the BP-SCL4 last on a charge?

Accepted Answer

Battery life depends heavily on usage — live view, EVF brightness, continuous shooting, and cold temperatures all reduce the number of shots per charge. As a practical habit, carrying a second BP-SCL4 is worthwhile on any full shoot day, and a used unit makes an affordable backup without compromising on OEM quality.

Question 4

Do I need a separate charger for the BP-SCL4?

Accepted Answer

Charger compatibility varies by Leica body model — consult your camera's documentation for supported charging methods. Using a dedicated external charger lets you top up a spare battery while the camera stays in use — a useful setup when you have two batteries in rotation.

Question 5

Is the BP-SCL4 interchangeable with other Leica batteries?

Accepted Answer

No — Leica uses several different battery models across its lineup and they are not interchangeable. The BP-SCL4 is specific to certain SL-series bodies. Always match the battery model number exactly to your camera to avoid compatibility issues.
