What makes the Leica Q3 special?

The Q3 is a fixed-lens compact camera that shoots like a medium-format rig. That 60-megapixel sensor gives you extraordinary latitude to crop — Leica builds in virtual crop frames for 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm equivalents, so you're not as locked into 28mm as it sounds. The Maestro IV processor handles the heavy lifting, and the combination of ProRes recording and 8K video output is genuinely unusual for a camera this size.

Compare it to the Leica Q3 43, which swaps the 28mm wide-angle for a 43mm APO-Summicron. The 43mm version is optically sharper and handles backlit subjects slightly better, but the 28mm on the standard Q3 is the more versatile focal length for street and travel. For everything-in-one travel use, the classic Q3 with its 28mm is the better choice.

The Fujifilm X100VI is often compared as an alternative. The X100VI is notably lighter and cheaper, but it carries an APS-C sensor and a 23mm f/2 lens — a full stop slower and a smaller sensor. The Q3's full-frame advantage becomes visible in high-ISO shots and in the sheer amount of fine detail the 60MP sensor captures.

For those considering rangefinder-style mirrorless alternatives, comparable options exist in the premium compact and fixed-lens category.
