Benro was founded in 1995 in China and grew into one of the largest tripod brands in the world. The range runs from compact tabletop tripods to professional Mach3 and Tortoise carbon tripods, plus ball heads such as the B series, three-way and fluid heads, and the filter system with holders and polarisers.

On a used tripod we look at the leg locks (twist or flip), whether the legs extend and lock without resistance, whether the centre column is straight and whether all rubber feet are present. On ball heads we test the tension, the lock and the panorama scale. We mention small paint damage, but it says nothing about function.

Choose your tripod by the weight it has to carry: leave headroom above the weight of your heaviest camera and lens combination. For video a fluid head is nicer than a ball head. Our product pages state load capacity and maximum height, and we are happy to advise.
