The film look without a film-production budget

The Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K remain the entry into real RAW cinematography, with interchangeable lenses (MFT and EF/L-mount respectively) and DaVinci Resolve included for free. The URSA line is there for productions that rig bigger.

What we look for in cine cameras

Recording hours cannot be read out on these cameras, so we inspect what can be measured: the sensor image for artefacts, recording to media at the highest bitrates, every port and the fan. Buying used Blackmagic: cameras, ATEM and converters

Australian Blackmagic Design, founded in 2001, grew big with affordable video converters and the free editing software DaVinci Resolve. Since 2012 the brand also builds cameras: the Pocket Cinema Camera series with Micro Four Thirds, EF or L mount, the shoulder-mounted URSAs for broadcast and cinema, and the compact Studio cameras for live streams. Around them sits a complete ecosystem of ATEM switchers, HyperDeck recorders, Mini Converters and Video Assist monitors.

On used cameras we check the sensor for spots, every connector, the screen, recording to CFast or USB-C media and the firmware. Switchers and converters are tested on all inputs and outputs. Because Blackmagic gear often lives in studios, the cosmetic condition is usually good; the condition notes say so honestly when it is not.

With a Blackmagic camera, think about power: many models need external batteries for longer recordings. We stock matching batteries, cages and monitors, and your current kit can be traded in.
