At Contax®, we are dedicated to celebrating the legendary Contax legacy. For over 70 years, Contax engineered some of the most innovative, beautifully designed, and finely crafted cameras the world has ever seen. From the early Contax rangefinders that redefined compact camera ergonomics to the game-changing SLRs like the Contax RTS with the first TTL metering system, Contax pioneered cutting-edge technology that shaped photography. Later, Contax launched the ideal combination of form and function with the T and G series. These alluring yet capable titanium-bodied masterpieces set the bar for what a luxury camera could be.

Buying used Contax: Zeiss glass for today
The Contax name dates back to 1932 at Zeiss Ikon, but the lenses in our range come from the collaboration between Carl Zeiss and Yashica/Kyocera from 1975 on. The Planar 50mm f/1.4, the Distagon 21mm f/2.8 and the Sonnar 85mm f/2.8 are legends, and the Contax 645 system with the Apo-Makro-Planar 120mm f/4 is still sought after by wedding photographers for its rendering.
Because Kyocera stopped in 2005, every Contax lens is used by definition. That calls for a thorough check: we look for fungus and haze in the glass, oil on the aperture blades, the smoothness of the focus ring and, on 645 lenses, the autofocus and the contacts. The condition notes list every minor flaw.
C/Y lenses work with a simple adapter on almost any mirrorless camera; for Contax 645 there are adapters to Fujifilm GFX and Hasselblad X among others. Feel free to ask which combination suits your camera.
