Leofoto from Zhongshan, China, has existed since 2014 and grew quickly by combining CNC-machined aluminium parts and ten-layer carbon with sharp prices. The Ranger series (LS) is the light all-rounder with legs that go flat to the ground without a centre column, the Summit series (LM) is built for heavy telephotos and video, and the Mr. Q and Urban lines are compact travel tripods. The LH ball heads have an Arca-Swiss compatible clamp, the PG gimbals carry 600mm lenses with ease.

On used units we check the twist locks for even operation, the legs for play and damage to the carbon, the rubber feet and the top plate. Ball heads are tested for clamping force, friction control and the Arca clamp. Because Leofoto is popular with nature photographers, sand can get into the locks; we clean it out.

Choose by load capacity and folded length. For a mirrorless camera with a zoom a Ranger LS-22 or LS-32 suffices, for 400mm and longer look at the LS-36 or Summit. The product page states sizes and weight.
