Buying a used Meike lens: what to look for

Meike from Hong Kong started as a maker of battery grips and flashes and has been building lenses for a number of years. The manual primes (25mm, 35mm, 50mm f/1.7 and more) are compact, metal and surprisingly sharp in the centre, with a soft rendering towards the edges that portrait photographers appreciate. The autofocus line brings affordable 33mm, 55mm and 85mm primes for modern systems, and the FF-Prime cine series delivers a set of T2.1 lenses with identical front diameter and gear position for Sony E, Canon RF, L-Mount and PL.

On used Meike we check the focus ring for smoothness, the aperture (clicked or de-clicked on cine versions), the contacts and autofocus motor on AF versions and the glass for scratches and dust. On cine primes we test the gears and the back focus. It is all in the condition notes.

Mind the sensor format: many manual Meikes are designed for APS-C or MFT. The product page states the mount and the format; if in doubt, ask us.
