Premium Used Metz Gear

Metz from Zirndorf near Nuremberg built electronics from 1938 and became world famous with the mecablitz flashes, first with the handle-mount units (45 CT and 60 CT) at the weddings of the 1980s, later with the compact AF models on the camera. The 44 AF-2, 52 AF-1 and 64 AF-1 combine a high guide number with a swivel-and-tilt head, a bounce card and full TTL support. After the 2014 insolvency the brand continued under Daiichi, but new flashes have become scarce.

That is why used Metz is attractive, provided it is well tested. We measure the flash output, check the flash tube for discolouration, form the capacitor, test TTL communication on a camera of the right brand and check the battery compartment and hot shoe. Older handle-mount flashes with high trigger voltage are noted separately, because they are not safe on every modern camera.

Above all, mind the version: a mecablitz for Canon does not work in TTL on a Nikon. The version is in the product name and on the product page. Questions about compatibility with a mirrorless camera? We look it up for you.
