Premium Used Tamron Gear

Tamron has reinvented itself: from budget alternative to the brand that makes the most popular zooms for Sony and Nikon β€” more compact and lighter than the brand lenses, for half the money. Popular models right now are the Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD (all-round portrait and action zoom), the Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD (compact wide-angle zoom) and the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 (light standard zoom). We usually have around 225 Tamron lenses in stock.

Why a used Tamron?

Tamron's modern zooms are already the value tip in every buying guide when new β€” review sites regularly place the G2 generation above the brand lenses they compete with β€” and used the threshold drops even further. Because the brand deliberately opts for slightly more modest specifications (f/2.8 with 28mm instead of 24mm), you get brand-level optics in a smaller, lighter lens β€” and that formula does not age. Handy detail: almost all modern Tamron zooms share the same 67mm filter size, so one set of filters serves your whole bag. That way you equip that bag for the budget of a single brand zoom, with tools that simply start their second round.

The stars per system

  • Sony E β€” the 28-75mm f/2.8 G2 is a modern classic, the unique 35-150mm f/2-2.8 replaces two lenses at once and the 70-180mm f/2.8 G2 keeps telephoto work light.
  • Travel & wildlife β€” the 50-400mm covers almost everything on its own.
  • APS-C β€” the 17-70mm f/2.8 is the standard zoom for Sony and Fuji crop shooters.
  • Nikon Z and older β€” more and more lines appear for Z, and the SP series for Canon EF and Nikon F remains a household name β€” like the 90mm macro, for generations now.

What we look for in used Tamron

Every Tamron goes through the same inspection as brand glass: autofocus, VC stabilisation, aperture and a glass check under bright light. On zooms we also test for zoom creep and the smoothness of the ring, and on the older SP lines the focusing behaviour on modern bodies. If a copy has a built-in USB port, we check the firmware straight away and update it where needed. What we see, we state honestly with the product β€” with copy photos and a 12-month warranty.

For which camera?

Want everything for your body in one place? Look under Lenses for Sony or Lenses for Nikon β€” there Tamron sits side by side with the brand glass. Trading in your current zoom for a G2 version is possible through an online offer.

Buying used Tamron: Di III for mirrorless, SP for DSLR

Tamron from Saitama, Japan, has existed since 1950 and grew big with affordable zooms for SLRs. The mirrorless breakthrough came in 2018 with the 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD for Sony E: small, light, sharp and half the price of the brand alternative. A complete trio followed (17-28mm, 28-75mm G2, 70-180mm G2), the all-in-one 28-200mm and 50-400mm, the 150-500mm for nature and the 35-150mm f/2-2.8 for weddings, now also for Nikon Z and partly for Fujifilm X and Canon RF. The SP line (24-70mm f/2.8 G2, 70-200mm f/2.8 G2, 15-30mm f/2.8) remains the reference for Canon EF and Nikon F users.

On used Tamron we test the autofocus on a camera of the right mount, the VC stabilisation where present, the zoom ring for play and zoom creep, the aperture and the glass for scratches, dust and fungus. Many lenses can be updated via the TAP-in Console or the Lens Utility app; we install the latest firmware where possible. Every item has an honest condition description with photos.

For many Sony photographers a used 28-75mm G2 is the only lens they need; for more reach choose the 70-180mm or 150-500mm. Check the mount on the product page and trade in your old glass with us.
