Question 1

What is the difference between the Nikon FTZ and the FTZ II?

Accepted Answer

The FTZ II dropped the tripod foot that was on the original FTZ adapter. That makes it more compact and better balanced when handheld, though it does mean you lose a direct tripod mounting point on the adapter itself. Optically and electronically, the two adapters perform identically.

Question 2

Which Nikon Z cameras is the FTZ II compatible with?

Accepted Answer

The FTZ II works with all Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras, including the Nikon Z5, Z5 II, Z6 III, Z7 II, Z8, Z9, Zfc, and Z30. Any current or future Nikon Z-mount body uses the same mount, so the adapter is future-proof within the Z system.

Question 3

Does the Nikon FTZ II support autofocus?

Accepted Answer

Yes — autofocus works with all Nikon AF-S and AF-P lenses, which cover the vast majority of lenses made in the last two decades. Older AF (screw-drive) lenses without an internal motor will not autofocus because Z-mount bodies have no mechanical AF drive. Manual focus lenses work fine optically, just without any electronic features.

Question 4

Is buying a used Nikon FTZ II adapter worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. The FTZ II is a purely mechanical and electronic adapter — there are no moving optical elements, no shutter, and no sensor to wear out. A second-hand unit in good condition performs identically to a new one, making it one of the safest used purchases in the Nikon ecosystem. Every used adapter on Camera-tweedehands.nl comes with a minimum 12 months warranty.

Question 5

How heavy is the Nikon FTZ II?

Accepted Answer

The FTZ II weighs 272g. That's light enough that balance stays reasonable even with a lightweight Z-mount body like the Nikon Zfc, though naturally heavier F-mount telephotos will shift the centre of gravity forward — just as they would on a DSLR.

Question 6

Can I use third-party F-mount lenses with the FTZ II?

Accepted Answer

Many third-party F-mount lenses — such as Sigma and Tamron AF lenses with electronic contacts — work well with the FTZ II, including autofocus. Compatibility isn't guaranteed for every third-party lens, so it's worth checking the manufacturer's compatibility list for your specific lens before buying.
