Question 1

What does the Nikon FTZ adapter do?

Accepted Answer

The Nikon FTZ Mount Adapter connects Nikon F-mount lenses — the mount used on Nikon DSLRs for decades — to Nikon Z-mount mirrorless camera bodies. It passes through electronic communication between lens and body, so autofocus, image stabilisation and EXIF data all continue to work with compatible lenses.

Question 2

Which Nikon Z-mount cameras work with the FTZ adapter?

Accepted Answer

The FTZ adapter works with any Nikon Z-mount mirrorless body, including cameras like the Nikon Z5, Nikon Z6 II, Nikon Z7 II, and Nikon Z9. As long as the body has a Z-mount, the adapter fits and functions correctly.

Question 3

Do all Nikon F-mount lenses work with the FTZ adapter?

Accepted Answer

Most modern AF-S and AF-P NIKKOR lenses work fully — autofocus and all electronic functions included. Older AF-D lenses lose autofocus because they rely on a physical drive screw that the FTZ adapter does not replicate. Manual-focus AI and AI-S lenses can also be used but with manual focus and limited metering support. Check Nikon's compatibility list for your specific lens before buying.

Question 4

Is buying a used Nikon FTZ adapter safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the FTZ is a passive mechanical and electronic adapter with no moving optical elements, so there's very little that can go wrong with it. On Camera-tweedehands.nl, every second-hand adapter is professionally inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, making a pre-owned unit a sensible, low-risk purchase.

Question 5

Does the FTZ adapter affect image quality?

Accepted Answer

No glass elements are involved in the FTZ adapter, so it has zero optical impact on image quality. The image path runs entirely through the F-mount lens itself. The adapter simply closes the distance and maintains the electrical contacts between lens and body.

Question 6

How heavy is the Nikon FTZ adapter?

Accepted Answer

The FTZ adapter weighs 135g. That's light enough to leave permanently attached to a lens without meaningfully affecting the balance of most camera-lens combinations.
