Question 1

What cameras is the Pentax SMC 6x7 75mm f/4.5 compatible with?

Accepted Answer

This lens is designed for the Pentax 6x7 bayonet mount, making it compatible with the Pentax 6x7 and Pentax 6x7 II medium format film cameras. It is not directly compatible with Pentax 67 bodies without a mount adapter, so check your body's mount version before buying.

Question 2

What is the equivalent focal length of the 75mm on a 6x7 medium format camera?

Accepted Answer

On a 6x7cm medium format frame, a 75mm lens is roughly equivalent to about 37mm on a 35mm full-frame camera. That makes it a useful moderate wide-angle — great for landscapes, interiors, and environmental portraits where you want context without heavy distortion.

Question 3

Is f/4.5 fast enough for the Pentax 6x7 75mm?

Accepted Answer

For a wide-angle medium format lens, f/4.5 is a reasonable maximum aperture. You won't be shooting in very low light handheld, but medium format film — especially faster stocks like ISO 400 — gives you enough latitude for most outdoor and studio work. The depth of field at f/4.5 on 6x7 is also shallower than you might expect coming from 35mm, so subject separation is still achievable.

Question 4

What does SMC coating mean on a Pentax lens?

Accepted Answer

SMC stands for Super-Multi-Coating, a multi-layer anti-reflection coating Pentax developed to minimize internal flare and ghosting while maintaining high color accuracy. On a wide-angle like this 75mm, which is more prone to flare when shooting toward light sources, the SMC coating makes a practical difference in contrast and shadow detail.

Question 5

Is buying a used Pentax SMC 6x7 75mm f/4.5 worth it?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the Pentax 6x7 lens lineup is well-regarded for build quality and optical performance, and these lenses were made to last. Buying a pre-owned copy is a cost-effective way to get into medium format wide-angle shooting. Every used lens on Camera-tweedehands.nl is individually inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if anything's not right.

Question 6

Can the Pentax SMC 6x7 75mm f/4.5 be used on digital cameras?

Accepted Answer

With a third-party adapter, this lens can be mounted on some digital cameras — most commonly mirrorless systems with a deep enough flange distance. However, it's a manual-focus, manual-aperture lens with no electronic contacts, so you'll need to shoot fully manually. Image circle coverage on digital sensors varies, so vignetting on full-frame digital is likely. It's primarily intended and optimized for 6x7cm film use.
