Question 1

What cameras use CFexpress Type A cards?

Accepted Answer

CFexpress Type A is a compact card format used primarily in Sony cameras such as the Sony Alpha 1, Sony Alpha 7S III, Sony Alpha 7R V, and Sony FX3. Always check your camera's manual to confirm which card format its slots support, as some Sony bodies accept both CFexpress Type A and UHS-II SD cards in the same slot.

Question 2

Is 512GB enough for video recording?

Accepted Answer

For most shooters, 512GB is a generous amount of storage. How long it lasts depends on your camera's codec and bitrate settings — higher-quality recording modes fill cards faster, so it's worth checking your camera's approximate file sizes per hour before a big shoot. For shorter shoots or mixed stills-and-video days, 512GB gives you a lot of breathing room.

Question 3

Can I use a CFexpress Type A card in a CFexpress Type B slot?

Accepted Answer

No — CFexpress Type A and Type B are physically different and not interchangeable. Type A cards are smaller and will not fit in a Type B slot. Always match the card type to your camera's slot specification.

Question 4

Is buying a used CFexpress Type A card safe?

Accepted Answer

Buying a used CFexpress Type A card is generally safe as long as it has been inspected and tested. On Camera-tweedehands.nl, every second-hand card is individually checked and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if anything goes wrong after purchase.

Question 5

Do I need a special card reader for CFexpress Type A?

Accepted Answer

Yes — a standard SD card reader won't work with CFexpress Type A cards. You'll need a reader that explicitly supports CFexpress Type A, or a multi-format reader that includes it. Some CFexpress Type A readers also handle UHS-II SD cards in the same slot, which is handy for Sony shooters.

Question 6

How does Pergear compare to Sony's own CFexpress Type A cards?

Accepted Answer

Pergear is a third-party brand in the CFexpress Type A space, offering an alternative to Sony's own cards. If you're considering a pre-owned Pergear 512GB card, the key thing to check is whether the card's rated write speed meets your specific camera's minimum requirement for the recording modes you rely on — this information is usually listed in your camera's manual or on the card's product page.
