Question 1

What is the Profoto A10 and what makes it different from a regular speedlight?

Accepted Answer

The Profoto A10 is an on-camera flash that integrates into the Profoto Air wireless ecosystem, meaning it can trigger and be triggered by other Profoto strobes. Unlike standard speedlights, it's designed to work seamlessly alongside studio heads and larger Profoto monolights — making it a genuine system flash rather than a standalone unit.

Question 2

Is the Profoto A10 compatible with Nikon cameras?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the Profoto A10 in this listing is the Nikon-specific version, built for full TTL and HSS support with Nikon camera bodies. Make sure you pick the Nikon variant (not the Canon or Sony version) for proper automatic exposure integration.

Question 3

How heavy is the Profoto A10?

Accepted Answer

The Profoto A10 weighs 560g. That's on the heavier side compared to basic speedlights, but it's a reasonable trade-off given the wireless Air connectivity and Profoto light quality you're getting in a portable form factor.

Question 4

Is buying a used Profoto A10 worth it?

Accepted Answer

Profoto gear is built to last, and a second-hand Profoto A10 is a practical entry point into the brand. Every used unit on Camera-tweedehands.nl is professionally inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're not taking a leap of faith. If you already own other Profoto Air-compatible gear, adding a used A10 to the kit makes a lot of sense — it drops straight into the same wireless system.

Question 5

Can the Profoto A10 be used off-camera as a remote flash?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The built-in Profoto Air radio system lets the A10 function as a remote receiver, triggering it wirelessly from a compatible Profoto Air transmitter. This opens up off-camera flash positioning without needing extra radio triggers.

Question 6

What's the difference between the Profoto A10 and the Profoto A1X?

Accepted Answer

The A10 and A1X sit close together in the Profoto on-camera flash lineup. The key addition on the A10 is AirX Bluetooth, which enables smartphone control via the Profoto app — a feature not present on the A1X. If app-based control and smartphone tethering matter to your workflow, the A10 is the one to look for.
