Question 1

How many flashes does the Profoto B1 500 AirTTL battery give per charge?

Accepted Answer

The Profoto B1 500 AirTTL uses a Lithium-Ion battery that is rated to deliver a substantial number of full-power flashes per charge — commonly cited in the photography community as around 220 full-power pops, though real-world count varies depending on power level used. Shooting at lower power settings significantly extends battery life per session.

Question 2

What does AirTTL mean on the Profoto B1?

Accepted Answer

AirTTL refers to Profoto's built-in Air wireless radio system that supports both TTL (through-the-lens automatic exposure) and manual remote control. It lets you trigger and adjust the B1 wirelessly from a compatible Profoto Air Remote without walking back to the light between shots — a genuine time-saver during fast-paced shoots.

Question 3

Is the Profoto B1 500 AirTTL compatible with Canon and Nikon cameras?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the AirTTL system on the B1 500 was released with dedicated TTL support for Canon and Nikon. To use TTL, you need the matching Profoto Air Remote TTL-C (Canon) or TTL-N (Nikon). Manual triggering works with any camera via the standard Air Remote. Sony TTL support requires checking which specific remote version is paired with your unit.

Question 4

Can the Profoto B1 500 AirTTL be used in a studio as well as on location?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. The B1 500 is designed as a dual-purpose strobe — its 500W output is strong enough for a proper studio setup, and the Li-Ion battery removes the need for a wall outlet, making it equally capable outdoors. It accepts the full range of Profoto light shapers (softboxes, beauty dishes, grids), so your studio modifier collection works in both environments.

Question 5

Is buying a used Profoto B1 500 AirTTL worth it?

Accepted Answer

For a second-hand B1 500 AirTTL is a smart buy. Profoto strobes are built to professional standards with long service lives, and a pre-owned unit that has been properly inspected gives you the same optical and wireless performance as new. All used units on Camera-tweedehands.nl come with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if anything unexpected comes up.

Question 6

What is the color temperature of the Profoto B1 500 AirTTL?

Accepted Answer

The B1 500 AirTTL outputs light at 5600 Kelvin, which is standard daylight balance. This makes it easy to mix with natural sunlight on location or to match other daylight-balanced light sources in a multi-light studio setup — less color correction needed in post.
