REDMAG 1.8" vs. RED MINI-MAG

RED produced two generations of on-camera SSD media: the REDMAG 1.8" series for EPIC and SCARLET cameras, and the newer RED MINI-MAG format for newer RED systems. These formats are not interchangeable due to different physical form factors. If you own an EPIC or SCARLET, the REDMAG 1.8" is the correct choice.

At 128GB, this capacity balances practical recording headroom with cost. Smaller capacities (48GB, 64GB) fill quickly during extended shooting at higher resolutions, while larger sizes (256GB, 512GB) carry significantly higher costs. The 128GB version provides a useful working block between offloads on multi-day shoots.

For offloading to a computer, you will need a separate REDMAG 1.8" SSD reader β€” this is not included with the drive itself.

Who needs the RED REDMAG 128GB 1.8" SSD?

This drive is designed specifically for filmmakers and cinematographers using RED EPIC or RED SCARLET camera systems. If your RED camera has a REDMAG 1.8" slot, this drive is the required media type β€” there is no third-party alternative. Documentary filmmakers, run-and-gun videographers, and wedding cinematographers using RED cameras benefit from having multiple 128GB cards on hand as primary media or backups during shoots where offloading between setups is possible.
