Question 1

What cameras use CFexpress Type B cards?

Accepted Answer

CFexpress Type B is the card format used in many modern high-performance cameras, including the Nikon Z9, Nikon Z8, Canon EOS R3, Canon EOS R5, and Sony Alpha 1. Always check your camera's manual to confirm the exact CFexpress type it accepts — Type A and Type B are not interchangeable.

Question 2

Is 128GB enough for CFexpress Type B shooting?

Accepted Answer

For most shooters, 128GB covers a full day of sports bursts or several hours of high-bitrate 4K video. If you regularly shoot 8K RAW or very long uncut video recordings, you may want a higher capacity card — but 128GB is a practical everyday size that avoids the extra cost of larger cards you may rarely fill.

Question 3

Can I use a CFexpress Type B card in a CFast or XQD slot?

Accepted Answer

No — CFexpress Type B cards are physically similar to XQD cards and will fit in some XQD slots only if the camera manufacturer has released a firmware update adding CFexpress support. They are not compatible with CFast 2.0 slots. Always verify firmware compatibility with your specific camera body before buying.

Question 4

Do I need a special card reader for CFexpress Type B?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Standard SD or CFast readers won't work. You need a dedicated CFexpress Type B card reader — or a combo reader that explicitly lists Type B support. SanDisk makes its own CFexpress readers, and several third-party options are widely available. It's worth picking one up before your first shoot so you're not caught out on transfer day.

Question 5

Is buying a used SanDisk CFexpress card safe?

Accepted Answer

Memory cards don't wear out the same way mechanical parts do — NAND flash has a high write-cycle tolerance, and a lightly used card typically has plenty of life left. On Camera-tweedehands.nl, every pre-owned card is individually inspected and comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you get a safety net alongside the lower price.

Question 6

What is the difference between CFexpress Type A and Type B?

Accepted Answer

Type A cards are smaller and physically fit in a different slot than Type B cards, which are larger. The two formats are physically incompatible — a Type B card will not fit in a Type A slot and vice versa. Type B cards, like this SanDisk Extreme Pro, can reach read speeds up to 1700MB/s, making them well-suited for burst shooting and 8K RAW video workflows.
