Question 1

What cameras use CFexpress Type B cards?

Accepted Answer

CFexpress Type B is the format used in including the Nikon Z9, Nikon Z8, Canon EOS R3, and Canon EOS R5. Always check your camera's manual to confirm it accepts CFexpress Type B specifically — some cameras use Type A or XQD instead.

Question 2

Does write speed matter as much as read speed for burst shooting?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — write speed is often the practical bottleneck when shooting bursts. When your camera is writing a rapid sequence of RAW files to the card, a slow write speed will cause the buffer to fill faster and stall your shooting. Read speed mainly affects how quickly you offload files to your computer. For cameras like the Canon EOS R5 that can sustain high-speed RAW bursts, a fast write speed keeps the buffer clearing quickly so you can keep shooting.

Question 3

Is 512GB enough for professional shooting?

Accepted Answer

For 512GB covers a full day of shooting — whether that's thousands of RAW bursts or hours of high-bitrate 4K/6K footage. If you shoot multi-day events without access to a computer, pairing two 512GB cards is a common workflow.

Question 4

Is buying a used CFexpress Type B card safe?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as it comes from a reputable source. Flash memory doesn't wear the same way hard drives do — a lightly used card from a professional photographer typically has a very long life ahead of it. All second-hand cards on Camera-tweedehands.nl are individually inspected and come with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if anything is off.

Question 5

Can I use a CFexpress Type B card in an XQD slot?

Accepted Answer

Some cameras with XQD slots — like older Nikon bodies — support CFexpress Type B cards via a firmware update. It's not universal though, so check your specific camera's firmware notes before assuming compatibility. CFexpress Type B and XQD share the same physical form factor, which is why the overlap exists.

Question 6

Do I need a special card reader for CFexpress Type B?

Accepted Answer

Yes. CFexpress Type B requires a dedicated CFexpress Type B reader — standard SD or CompactFlash readers won't work. To get the fastest possible transfer speeds when backing up files, pair the card with a reader that supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt. A bottleneck at the reader side is the most common reason people don't see the full speeds a fast card like this is capable of.
