Question 1

Is the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD good for astrophotography?

Accepted Answer

Yes — the f/2.8 maximum aperture at 17mm lets in a solid amount of light, which matters when you're shooting stars with short exposures to avoid trailing. The ultra-wide angle also means you can capture large swaths of the Milky Way in a single frame. Just stop down slightly from wide open if edge sharpness on stars is important to you.

Question 2

Does the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD work on full-frame Canon bodies?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's designed specifically for full-frame sensors. The Canon EF mount version is compatible with full-frame DSLRs like the Canon EOS 5D series and 6D series, covering the entire image circle without vignetting.

Question 3

Can I use this lens on a Canon mirrorless body (EOS R system)?

Accepted Answer

With a Canon EF–EOS R mount adapter, yes. Users have reported the lens functioning properly on EOS R-series bodies via adapter, though it's worth checking for the latest firmware on your adapter for full autofocus compatibility.

Question 4

How sharp is the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD wide open at f/2.8?

Accepted Answer

Acceptably sharp at f/2.8 across the frame — and it improves noticeably when you stop down even slightly to f/4 or f/5.6. For most real-world uses like landscapes and events, wide-open performance is more than usable.

Question 5

What does OSD mean on Tamron lenses?

Accepted Answer

OSD stands for Optimized Silent Drive, Tamron's autofocus motor system designed to deliver quiet and relatively quick focusing. It's particularly handy for video shooting or quiet environments like wedding ceremonies.

Question 6

Is the Tamron 17-35mm f 2.8-4 lighter than comparable Canon lenses?

Accepted Answer

Yes — one of the headline advantages of this lens is its low weight, making it notably lighter than many Canon L-series wide-angle options. If you're shooting all day at a wedding or hiking with your kit, that difference adds up quickly.

Question 7

Is buying a used Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD worth it?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. This lens holds up well over time, and a second-hand copy that's been professionally inspected gives you the same optical performance at a lower entry cost. Every pre-owned lens sold here comes with a minimum 12 months warranty, so you're covered if anything unexpected comes up.

Question 8

What's the difference between the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD and the older Tamron SP 17-35mm f/2.8-4?

Accepted Answer

The Di OSD (Model A037) is the modern replacement for the older SP version. It uses Tamron's updated OSD autofocus motor for quieter operation and benefits from contemporary optical coatings and construction. The SP version is a legacy design — the A037 is the one to look for.
