Buying used Schneider-Kreuznach: large format to cine
Schneider-Kreuznach from Bad Kreuznach is one of the oldest still-active lens manufacturers in Germany. For large format it supplied the Symmar and Apo-Symmar standard lenses and the Super-Angulon wide-angles in Copal shutters, still the basis of many 4x5 and 8x10 cameras. For digital medium format Schneider developed, together with Phase One, the Blue Ring LS leaf-shutter lenses (35mm to 240mm), and for technical cameras from Cambo and Alpa the Digitar line. The Xenon FF-Prime cine lenses and the B+W filters belong to the same house.
On used Schneider lenses we check the leaf shutter at every speed (Copal or LS), the aperture blades for oil and smoothness, the glass for haze, fungus and balsam separation and the lens board mount or bayonet. LS lenses are tested on a Phase One camera, including their shutter count. The condition notes list everything, including the series and coating generation where relevant.
You buy large-format lenses by image circle and focal length for your film format; LS lenses by your Phase One or Mamiya body. We are happy to advise and buy your old Schneider glass.
