Tokina built its reputation on one speciality: wide angle. The 11-16mm f/2.8 became the ultra-wide workhorse for APS-C and still is used. Our range holds around 200 Tokina lenses, mostly for Canon EF and Nikon F.

Where Tokina excels

Besides the 11-16mm and its successors (11-20mm, atx-i line) you will find the 100mm f/2.8 macro and various classic AT-X zooms with us — built like tanks, with the characteristic focus clutch that lets you pull the focus ring back for manual work.

Classics with an inspection

Many Tokinas are getting on in years by now, so we inspect with focus: the focus clutch and focus motor, the aperture and the glass under bright light for the haze that can affect older zooms. What we find is listed with the copy, with photos and a warranty. Need wide angle on mirrorless? With a simple adapter these lenses simply keep going.

Buying used Tokina: wide-angle, macro and primes

Tokina from Tokyo has existed since 1950 and belongs to the same group as Kenko and Hoya. The brand became famous with APS-C photographers through the AT-X 11-16mm f/2.8 PRO DX, for years the only fast ultra-wide for Canon EF and Nikon F, later followed by the 11-20mm f/2.8 and the 14-20mm f/2. The 100mm f/2.8 AT-X PRO D Macro is a sharp and affordable 1:1 macro lens with a unique focus clutch, the opera 50mm f/1.4 and 16-28mm f/2.8 are full-frame top lenses, and the atx-m series (23mm, 33mm, 56mm f/1.4) brings autofocus primes to Sony E and Fujifilm X.

On used Tokina we test the autofocus (screw drive on older Nikon versions, which requires a camera with a motor), the focus clutch where present, the aperture and the glass for scratches, dust and fungus. Zoom rings are checked for play. Every item has an honest condition description.

An 11-16mm or 11-20mm remains the best buy for landscape and architecture on an APS-C DSLR; on a mirrorless camera it works through an adapter. Check the mount on the product page and trade in your old glass with us.
